Sunday November 13th,

Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia. Funds raised at this year’s Reason for Hope Concert will be directed to Metastatic Breast Cancer Research.

ROOTS OF ROCK FUNDRAISER FOR FESTIVAL ANTIGONISH
Artistic
Producer, Ed Thomason, announced a different approach to the highly
successful concert fundraisers
which have become a March tradition for
Festival Antigonish in recent years.
“Instead of spotlighting a
songwriter like Bob Dylan, we’ve chosen an era,” he said in an
interview this week.
“The show is called Roots of Rock – Volume 1
– 1949 to 1960. So we’re talking about legendary hits by
artists
including Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, to name but a few,
and a whole variety
of styles from blues through doo wop to country and
folk.”
Thomason readily admits to a nostalgic fondness for this music.
“Sure,
it’s the soundtrack of my childhood, but let’s face it, it’s achieved
classic status
– these artists are still being enjoyed and rediscovered
by listeners of all ages”.
Roots of Rock will play for
three nights at the Bauer Theatre and feature local artists,
including
Jakki Rogue, Greg & Jess Favaro, Dan Wilson, and Molly Thomason.

Pictou County’s own Jakki Rogue has received the nod of the Music Industry of Nova Scotia as she graciously accepts the 2005 NOVA SCOTIA MUSIC AWARD NOMINEE - FEMALE RECORDING ARTIST for her first ever CD project "Take A Look At This". ""Take A Look At This" was a long time in the works and means a great deal to me as an artist. To now receive the recognition of the music industry has reinforced my belief in this business, and in believing in yourself and following your dream", says Rogue. For those of you who haven’t had the opportunity to kick back and enjoy her live performance, get ready. Jakki stands tall among female artists in our Province. Her instrumental ability is second to none, on a variety of instruments. She’s a strong, seasoned performer, a fabulous singer and a songwriter who gets to the heart of the matter. "Jakki's music is as
honest and heartfelt as it comes", agrees Fellow-Pictonian
and nominee Dave Gunning,
who worked with Jakki in producing some of the songs on "Take
A Look At This", along with another nominee
Halifax-based producer Rick Edgett. Jakki is a strong artist and a
seasoned professional. She’s seen it all during her career, and still
remains in the game, a positive contributor to the industry, all the
while raising her two greatest accomplishments, her son and daughter.
Jakki’s music shines both on the stage and off, where her "day" job
finds her teaching the next generation at the Yamaha School of Music, H
& R Music, New Glasgow.
