NEW GLASGOW FARMERS MARKET GRAND OPENING SET FOR JUNE 9

NEW GLASGOW, June 7, 2012…..The New Glasgow Farmers Market is excited to
announce its return to the New Glasgow Riverfront location and that  its
Grand Opening will take place on Saturday, June 9 from 8:30 am - 12 Noon .
The Farmers Market provides an opportunity for community members and
visitors to purchase locally grown produce, fresh beef and fish, baked

goods, local art work, plants, flowers, breakfast burritos, crafted wood
furniture, locally made honey and jams, natural soaps, locally made
cheese, photography, handmade scarves, and much more. People from across
the region welcomed the chance to buy local goods during the beautiful
opening weekend and spirits were high as the community celebrated the
return of a favourite Saturday morning gathering spot. Vendors reported
brisk traffic and steady sales throughout the first morning of the season.

New Glasgow Farmers Market Manager Natalie Gordon says, “There will be
wonderful entertainment, seedling giveaways for kids, and an increased
number of vendors at the Grand Opening.

The official opening of 2012 will also feature music by local musician
Jakki Rogue and representatives from West River Greenhouses will also be
on site to showcase their amazing locally grown plants as well as giving
free, helpful advice.  “We expect to be busy due to the level of
interest and enthusiasm expressed by the public during the opening
weekend”, says Natalie.  The Market has been very well received in the
past and it continues to pride itself on taking community input and

turning it into reality. New Glasgow Farmers Market Manager Natalie Gordon
adds that "The primary aim of the market is getting high quality locally
grown food back into the hands of the local community."  She also urges
people to remember that "The New Glasgow Farmers Market is accessible to
everyone!"

"The New Glasgow Farmers Market is a wonderful  regional asset but also is
a great draw for tourists," says New Glasgow Director of Marketing  &
Communications Kim Dickson.  "Visitors are very interested in speaking
directly with local producers, artists and artisans and learning directly
from them about Nova Scotia locally grown and made  products. They are
drawn to an authentic experience that enables them to meet Nova Scotians
and also  learn firsthand about the talent and flavours that abound in our
province. These opportunities are what shapes a memorable vacation
experience that sets Nova Scotia apart from other destinations. We are
proud to have this attraction in our region for both our residents and
tourists."

THIS SATURDAY AT THE NEW GLASGOW FARMERS MARKET!!

We open our 2012 season with more vendors than ever before!!  Meet new vendors inside the dome, and out. The NGFM is thrilled to add honey & honey products (Country Blossom Apiary) and fresh local fish (Strickland Farms), NGFM customers will love the locally-grown, sustainable arctic char this season! Fish farmer Chris Strickland can answer all your questions & has a free hand-out with suggested preparation & a few recipes! Also look forward to maple syrup, blueberries, cheese and liqueurs...... and all of these extra treats......

Give-away of 100 pumpkin seedlings to  the first 100 kids to become members of the new Sprouts growing club (for ages 4 - 14 years). The plants were grown by Lakenman Farms and come with instructions. Members of this new club will have the opportunity to win prizes for growing throughout the season!

East Coast FM will be on-site with us from 9 - 11 am

The wonderful Jakki Rogue will be performing. Come sit outside with your organic, free-trade coffee and listen to Jakki sing and play guitar, before she leaves for summer tour dates in Ontario.

Ironworks Distillery will make it’s NGFM debut - with distilled spirits, brandy and liqueurs. This small Lunenburg company distills in small batches. They turn Annanpolis Valley apples into brandy, and Nova Scotia fruits into liqueurs. These are not available at the NSLC, but our market will have their amazing products every other week, all season long!

Delicious food choices to eat on-site or take-away, including Indian and Middle-eastern!! Also:
breakfast burrito, chowder, and lobster wraps (Celtic Circle in the market kitchen) cookies & cinnamon rolls (the Cookie Jar) homemade donuts & creampuffs (Stone Soup Cafe)  meat pies (Jiggy Java) pies & tarts (Country Kitchen ) plus raw food, cheesecake  & cupcakes, and more...

The NGFM looks forward to its best season yet, and hopes the community joins us to kick off our fifth season this Saturday.
We are open from 8:30 until noon every Saturday until the end of October. “When you know your producer, you really know your stuff!” See you at the market!
